For those who don’t know who Eloise Battle is, she was the grandmother of open space preservation in the City of San Diego. Tecolote Canyon’s existence as a nature preserve is thanks to her. She thwarted plans to build a four-land road through Tecolote Canyon along with 1,500 homes.

Eloise Battle at Tecolote
In 1978, Tecolote Canyon was finally dedicated as an open space park and protected for future generations.
All San Diegans who love and enjoy our open space areas are indebted to Eloise. The Friends of Rose Creek stands on the shoulders of Eloise. Without her, we would not have all these great open spaces in our community or a roadmap of how to protect San Diego’s amazing wild places.
