The Friends of Rose Creek and many of our partners are under attack from the most recent presidential memorandum, signed on September 25th, entitled “Countering Domestic Terrorism and Organized Political Violence.”

Stick figure attacking another stick figureThreats include loss of non-profit status, criminal investigation, and prosecution of what most people would call rights exercised under the first amendment such as peaceful protest if the goal is to “direct policy outcomes.”

The Friends of Rose Creek has signed onto a letter spearheaded by The National Council of Nonprofits (NCN), which condemns the presidential memorandum as an egregious, attempted abuse of power. NCN president and CEO Diane Yentel stated,

“This action… is a blatant attack on one of the core principles of our democracy, the freedom of speech.” She warned, “this rhetoric and action undermines the lifesaving work of millions of nonprofit staff and volunteers and puts them at risk.”
