February 21, 2026 - 3:45 PM to 5:45 PM
Pacific Beach
Lower Rose Creek Bird Walk
Join us for a collaboration between the San Diego Bird Alliance and the Friends of Rose Creek as we explore the birds of the Rose Creek Salt Marsh and upstream habitat.
The Snow Birds may still be hanging around. These bird summer in Alaska and Canada, but prefer to hang out in San Diego for the winter. Blue-winged teals, Bufflehead, and dozens of American Wigeons are hanging out daily at the Rose Creek Salt Marsh
Stay for as long or as short as you wish. We usually have the best bird sightings around sunset!
This bird stroll is on mostly level ground, often paved and suitable for all ages. Unfortunately, the entire walk is not wheelchair accessible. If you or someone who wants to attend uses a wheelchair, please Contact Us for how you can join for the wheelchair friendly stretch of the walk.
Kyle will be our guide this month.
We are grateful for our partnership with the San Diego Bird Alliance. Their grant funders need to know money is being well-spent. You can help with this effort by pre-registering online or registering at the event the day of.
Low tide will be at 5:07 PM PT and high tide is at 11:40 PM Sunset is at 5:39 PM. Bring a jacket as it will be cool near sunset or earlier depending on the weather.
ROSE CREEK is a birding hot spot in the north east corner of Mission Bay. Check out the latest sightings on eBird. A treasure in Pacific Beach, the creek and salt marsh is popular with Bikers on the East side, a quiet, shaded walking path on the West side.
Bring binoculars if you have them, good walking shoes and check the weather before you come. Our guide will have a scope to help us see the birds closeup and personal and we will have extra pairs of binoculars to share thanks to the San Diego Bird Alliance. Heavy rain cancels, but drizzle means we walk. After all the birds don’t mind the rain.
If you can can, download Kyle’s bird list ahead of time and see how many birds on the list you spot.
