You can take part in California Biodiversity Day no matter where you are!  Simply join the  Find 30 Species for California Biodiversity Day project  on iNaturalist and record 30 wild species between September 5–13.   Every observation adds to a statewide picture  of California’s amazing biodiversity, and the information we gather together helps inform the  California 30×30 Initiative .

Rose Creek Bioblitz

Join the Friends of Rose Creek for a gathering of volunteers and researchers trying to find and identify as many species as possible in a specific area over a short period – in this case we will be out along the salt marsh for two hours using iNaturalist to document plants and birds.

What is iNaturalist?

If you are already on iNaturalist, join the Rose Creek BioBlitz. If you do not have an iNaturalist account, create one before you come. Or just show up and we can walk you through all of it.
All you need is an app enabled device or a camera.

You will be part of a community science project throughout California.

Why San Diego?

San Diego County is a biodiversity hotspot, with more animal and plant species than almost any other county in the contiguous United States. However, in recent decades, increased threats from new and existing development, wildfire, and the effects of climate change, such as drought and extreme heat, have begun to threaten the region’s native ecosystems and local wildlife.

California is one of the most bio-diverse regions in the world and is one of 36 global biodiversity hotspots.
Global biodiversity hotspots contain exceptional concentrations of plant and animal species found nowhere else on the planet, but they also experience high rates of biodiversity loss. Unfortunately, California is no exception – approximately 30% of our species are at risk of extinction.

Join the Friends of Rose Creek

iNaturalist training and a community of passionate observers will gather on Saturday, September 12th from 8 AM until 10 AM behind the Rose Creek Cottage. Native plants and birds will be our targets but who know what else we will spot.

Park on Fogg Street and walk over. We will be behind the Rose Creek Cottage.

Take public transit. Bus 8 and 27 stop by the Rose Creek Cottage at the intersection of Garnet Avenue and Soledad Mountain Road.
