Connecting Communities at Lower Rose Creek (30×30 Field Trip)
August 15, 2025 - 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM
San Diego
RSVP Today – Only 14 spots available
Hop on a van and explore lower Rose Creek. Learn about challenges and opportunities to maintaining a wildlife corridor between the proposed wetlands restoration project in Mission Bay, and protected habitat that leads to the Cuyamaca Mountains and Anza Borrego State Park. From the salt marsh in Pacific Beach to the preserved habitat of Marian Bear Natural Park, we’ll make stops at a few key points so participants can experience all the faces of lower Rose Creek. Each stop will be approximately 30 minutes where we can out and explore while learning some of the history of this area that once was home to a very large Kumeyaay village.
Access the RSVP form here. Sign up for the morning and afternoon sections with a free box lunch in between courtesy of the San Diego Bird Alliance.
From salt marsh habitat to fresh water riparian, participants will have an opportunity to explore the lower portion of the 36 square mile Rose Creek Watershed.
Establishing this protected connection relates to the 30×30 goals of protecting and restoring biodiversity, expanding access to nature, mitigating and building resilience to climate change, and implementing “ watershed-scale restoration projects that connect land and coastal water habitats; fish and wildlife corridors to connect already conserved landscapes and waterways.” (30×30 goal # 6.6).
Connecting habitat in the Northeast corner of Mission Bay Park to the inland natural parks and preserved land will provide species opportunities to move throughout the 36 square mile Rose Creek Watershed and beyond.
Each stop will be approximately 30 minutes and we will mostly be walking on paved paths or dirt paths that are flat. Tennis shoes are appropriate. This trip will involved participants being driven between note worthy access points along Rose Creek. It will require getting in and out of a 15 passenger van.
Access to restrooms will be limited as there are no restrooms located at our stopping points. However, we will make a pit stop at a fast food restaurant midway through the tour if anyone wants to use the restroom or grab something to eat.
Please note for the afternoon section, the van will pick you up at De Anza Cove after the lunch break that ends by 1 PM. At the end of our exploration of Rose Creek, the van is happy to drop you off at the morning session starting point, Crown Point Shores.
We can also return participants the Natural History Museum in Balboa Park. As the van will be returning to San Diego International Airport at the end of the Field Trip, participants are welcome to get dropped off at the terminal of their choice.
