Winter Solstice Bird Walk

Flyer for bird walkJoin us for the shortest day of the year. The actual solstice takes place at 1:20 am on Saturday, December 21, 2024!

Don’t miss the blue-winged teal, Bufflehead, American wigeons, and so many more birds

Join the Friends of Rose Creek for a free guided bird walk along the Rose Creek Salt Marsh & Estuary. Stay for as long or as short as you wish. We usually have the best bird sightings around sunset!

Sunset is at 4:48 PM and high tide is at 12:56 PM so the tide will be dropping during our walk.

ROSE CREEK is a birding hot spot in the north east corner of Mission Bay. Check out the latest sightings on eBird. A treasure in Pacific Beach, the creek and salt marsh is popular with Bikers on the East side, a quiet, shaded walking path on the West side.

Come join us as we seek out our year-round residents of Great Blue Heron, Snowy Egret, Osprey and the ever present American Coots. Who knows what else we will see. Lately, there have been Canadian Geese, Kingfishers, and all the winter visitors.

Kyle will be our guide this month. Meet at Mission Bay High School. FACULTY PARKING Lot along Rose Creek, off Grand Ave. If you can see  Download Kyle’s bird list ahead of time and see how many birds on the list you spot.
