King Tides Antithesis Walk at Rose Creek

December 14, 2024 - 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM

San Diego

The antithesis of the King Tides is the extreme low tide. Today the King Tide is at 7:27 AM, but we documented the King Tides on November 16th. Interestingly enough, the extreme low tide happens in December, not November.

Rose Creek and the Kendall-Frost Marsh are star-crossed lovers. Rose Creek is trying desperately to reconnect and its arc towards Kendall-Frost is most visible at the extreme low tide.  Plus the shore birds will be out in force.

Join us as we walk to the mouth of Rose Creek to experience nature trying to heal itself!

The low tide at Crown Point in Mission Bay will be at  3:26 PM with a height of a negative 1.5 ft. (-1.5).

The Rose Creek Salt Marsh and Estuary will probably be a bit later but be at the Salt Marsh 30 minutes early to be able to view the tides.

We will be walking along an wheelchair accessible asphalt path that is wheelchair accessible from the Mike Gotch Bridge to the mouth of Rose Creek.

Why you ask?  A salt marsh relies on the fresh water, sedimentation, and nutrients, that the creek provides during storm events. Learn more at Freshwater Flows: A Critical Factor in Salt Marsh Health.
