Guided Bird Walk & City Nature Challenge BioBlitz

April 30, 2022 - 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM

Pacific Beach

City Nature Challenge is sponsored locally by the San Diego Natural History Museum. As part of our monthly bird walk, we will be documenting birds, bugs, and plants on iNaturalist using your smart phone or camera and try to beat out San Francisco as the county with the most species and observations.

What is City Nature Challenge?

Run by the Community Science teams at the California Academy of Sciences and the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, the CNC is an annual four-day global bioblitz at the end of April, where cities are in a collaboration-meets-friendly-competition to see not only what can be accomplished when we all work toward a common goal, but also which city can gather the most observations of nature, find the most species, and engage the most people in the event.

Training will be provided at the event but it would help if you create an account on iNaturalist ahead of time. If you want help getting set up, please show up at 4:30 PM for technical support.

If you’re not a smart phone user, you can take photos using a camera and then upload them from your computer once you are home.

ROSE CREEK is a treasure in Pacific Beach, popular with Bikers on the East side, a quiet, shaded walking path on the West side. Once a month, on Saturday, Friends of Rose Creek lead a Guided Bird Walk along the Mud Flats, winding Estuary and into the Riparian area full of trees and song birds. Recently we’ve seen baby ducks, seagulls and Ospreys chicks. More unusual sightings; Northern Shoveler, Red Knot, and Black-headed Grosbeak. Join Kyle and Laurie at Mission Bay High School. FACULTY PARKING Lot along Rose Creek, off Grand Ave.

At Rose Creek any day is good for treats and surprises. Sunset will be 7:30 p.m..

Currently, no masks are required for small group outdoor events for anyone. However, we will continue to follow county guidelines that may change. Click here for details.

Anyone who develops COVID-19 within a few days of attending this event should notify the Friends of Rose Creek and/or other attendees as soon as possible.

Please check the calendar a day before the event to insure that it is still happening.  Get out and spend some time with your creek!
