In the summer of 2019, gardeners who did not understand the difference between native plants that go dormant in the summer time and high water usage flowers from distant lands, decimated the native plant garden originally planted by the Nature School in the mid-90s. The Friends of Rose Creek and many others were heartbroken.
Today while I was tending the plants we planted in November 2019 to replace what was removed, I found the miracle of nature. Black sage sprouting from roots, coast sunflower in bloom, and what looks to be shoots of San Diego Sagewort sprouting up. We’ll be nurturing these survivors. While it may take a few years for the area to regain its former glory, hope springs eternal.

What about the garden that didn’t get weeded?

Unfortunately due to plant thieves, we no longer weed. When the native plants get large enough they will crowd out the yearly weeds.
