The American Institute of Architects, Committee on the Environment – San Diego is currently working with the Communities of Pacific Beach/Mission Beach & Mission Bay to study and implement “Eco-District” concepts to those neighborhoods. We have received a Sustainable Design Assessment Team (SDAT) Grant from the National AIA. A team of multidisciplinary recognized professionals will come to San Diego for a 3 – 4 day design and planning charette this October. We propose to study the following issues:

Environmental

Social

Economic

· Water quality/supply

· Flooding and sea level rise

· Transit and Land Use

· Energy Efficiency

· Wildlife habitat/wetlands

· Public spaces

· Sense of community/place

· Pedestrian/bicycle options

· Revitalization

· Traffic Congestion and parking

· Transportation

This process will help us to assist these communities in establishing sustainable goals, and define strategies and solutions that can be applied to other neighborhoods with similar problems and issues.

An introductory meeting for the project takes place on Saturday, June 29 from 10 AM until noon @ Mission Bay High School.

The team is currently meeting regularly and forming committees to prepare for this community event. If you are interested, please email us  or read more online.
